Intriguing biological aspects of southern African grasslands:
observations, questions and hypotheses

The well-known botanist, Professor Braam van Wyk from the University of Pretoria, will be presenting the first Keynote Address. Prof van Wyk is a plant taxonomist whose current research projects cover a wide range of southern African plant families, focused in KwaZulu-Natal, Pondoland, Maputaland (including southern Mozambique) and Sekhukhuneland. He has a special interest in the flora of the Gauteng grasslands, especially considering their demise due to certain activities and management practices. He has also been active in the classification of the rich southern African flora. Among his more popular works are Field Guide to Wild Flowers of the Highveld, Field Guide to Trees of Southern Africa, A Photographic Guide to Wild Flowers of South Africa and How to Identify Trees in Southern Africa.

Climate change and the South African agriculture sector:
fatter or leaner years?

Professor Roland Schulze, internationally acclaimed hydrologist from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, will be presenting a second Keynote Address relating climate change to rangeland ecology and pasture management.
