The Groen Sebenza Jobs Fund Partnership Project is a major skills development and job creation pilot programme that is aimed at developing priority skills in the biodiversity sector and to create sustainable job opportunities for unemployed youth. WESSA is one of 38 environmental or biodiversity organisations, from all tiers of government, NGO and private sectors, who have joined Green Matter and SANBI to help implement the Groen Sebenza project. WESSA is currently recruiting for a Biodiversity Professional for a 2 year internship to be based the WESSA National Office in Howick.

Key Performance Areas include:
1. Biodiversity conservation research
2. National Biodiversity project development, management and implementation
3. Supporting current WESSA biodiversity work
4. Developing and maintaining networks within the sector

Minimum requirements:
• A degree in the natural sciences (preferably a BSc)
• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
• A genuine passion for working in the natural environment sector and keen to ‘make the case for biodiversity.’
• Excellent computer skills
• GIS skills would be an advantage
• Interest or skills in working with communities (particularly those adjacent to protected areas)
• Have initiative and the ability to work independently
• Willing to travel
• Must have a valid drivers licence
