The Endangered Wildlife Trust seeks to appoint a Project Manager to manage its Wildlife and Energy Programme Renewable Energy Project, based in Cape Town.

The Project Manager has the overall responsibility to professionally, effectively and efficiently manage the projects’ planning, budgeting, fundraising, sustainability and its effective implementation. The Project Manager has the responsibility to support the achievement of the overall Programme’s strategy, goals and targets whilst contributing to the growth and development of the Endangered Wildlife Trust as a leading environmental NGO.

Reporting line:  Wildlife and Energy Programme Manager
This is a full-term position.

Responsibilities

  • Project strategic development management, implementation, monitoring and evaluation;
  • Stakeholder (including government, NGOs, industry etc.) relations and communications;
  • Training, education and awareness generation;
  • Ensure sustainability of the Renewable Energy Project of the Programme and its associated budget by fundraising;
  • Expand the scope and impact of the project as needed ensuring compliance to standards, both internal and external, for all Renewable Energy Project and conservation activities;
  • Measure the success or falure of the smaller projects under your supervision and remedial action taken;
  • Manage the collection and collation of relevant and complete desktop and/or field datasets;
  • Manage pre- and post-construction avifaunal monitoring at wind and solar energy facilities according to Best Practise Guideline;
  • Review and comment on specialist studies and EIA reports for Renewable Energy Projects as a registered I≈
  • Develop concept documents and proposals for research projects that require funding;
  • Increase awareness and understanding of biodiversity and renewable energy interactions amongst target audiences;
  • Write general interest/newsworthy articles for popular magazines/newspapers;
  • Present on biodiversity and renewable energy interactions at relevant forums;
  • Develop general awareness raising materials (e.g. posters, manuals) for various forums;
  • Supervise the development and implementation of training for tertiary students, industry and government agencies.

Requirements:

 

  • Energetic, dynamic and self-motivated;
  • Strategic thinker;
  • Passionate about conservation and has the ability to engage with the corporate sector; 
  • Key interest in the renewable energy sector;
  • Communication and networking skills;
  • Willing to take the initiative to learn and implement novel approaches and tools; and
  • Motivated by the challenge of working with multi-disciplinary teams and also able to work independently;
  • Minimum of a masters degree in a relevant field;
  • Minimum of three years’ experience working in a relevant field and a proven track record in management;
  • Ability to network effectively, and collaborate with partners;
  • Knowledge of the renewable energy sector and its impacts on biodiversity;
  • Understand South Africa’s environmental legislation and its relevance to energy related developments;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of programmes;
  • Bilingualism is an advantage;
  • Possession of a valid South African or international driver’s license, and suitable driving experience.
