The Department of Biodiversity and Conservation Biology at UWC is a growing regional provider of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Botany, Ecology and Zoology and staff are active in a number of diverse research areas.

A vacancy exists for a zoologist with a research background in either herpetology/vertebrate biology or, preferably, animal eco-physiology, to start on 1 July 2014, or as soon as possible thereafter.Minimum criteria include: a Ph.D., or in the process of submitting/completing a Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline, and must have an appropriate track record of research outputs (including postgraduate student supervision). Applicants with post-doctoral work experience and research grant generation will be advantaged. Candidates that meet the minimum criteria for appointment will be short-listed in the following rank order of preference: animal eco-physiology, herpetology, general vertebrate biology.

The appointee will be expected to: teach at both the undergraduate and Honours level, conduct research in either herpetology/vertebrate biology or, preferably animal eco-physiology, supervise postgraduate students in same, and assume departmental administrative responsibilities commensurate with the position. The successful candidate should have experience of success in teaching large classes of students from educationally disadvantaged backgrounds.
