Higher Education South Africa (HESA): Director - Operations and Sector Support
As a nonprofit organisation, HESA is funded through membership fees
and revenues from contract management services and donor agencies.
Applications are therefore invited for the position of Director: Operations and Sector Support.
This position presents an exceptional opportunity for qualifying
professionals to join HESA and help it achieve its growth targets.
This is a five-year fixed term position.
Remuneration package: Market-related salary package
This position is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient
strategic and operational support necessary for the timely
implementation of programmes and projects. The Director will be
responsible for proactively and strategically directing
and integrating the support functions of HESA (finance and
administration) with clear roles and responsibilities to interface with
project and programme (operations) functions. The Director will develop
initiatives and metrics for liaising with
appropriate stakeholders to establish positive working environment
within HESA.
Requirements:
- PhD in Education or relevant field with indepth knowledge of South Africa’s Higher Education system;
- Sound knowledge of policy within which Higher Education system operates;
- Excellent analytical and writing skills, including development of policy briefs;
- Strong project conceptualisation, planning, implementation and monitoring and evaluation skills;
- Excellent networking and advocacy skills;
- Strategic and operational management skills;
- Proven research and publication record;
- Demonstrated evidence of managing complex projects and budgets;
- Demonstrated leadership, administrative, and communication skills;
- Proven ability to collaborate; evidence of a team-oriented approach.
- Providing strategic direction and leadership to projects and programmes within HESA, from conceptualisation, design, implementation to closure. Managing the resources (human and financial) efficiently and effectively necessary for the implementation of projects and programmes of HESA;
- As part of HESA’s executive management team, develop value-adding and cost effective services and projects to support the Higher Education sector;
- Contribute to the development of HESA policy positions on key issues with implications for the Higher Education sector;
- Support the work of the HESA strategy groups;
- Development of policy analyses that are relevant and authoritative on key Higher Education issues.
