Project 90 by 2030, a registered nonprofit was established as a national initiative of the Goedgedacht Trust in July 2007. The project employs five full-time, five part-time and two volunteer members of staff and varying numbers of short-term volunteers and associates. The project exists to challenge South Africans to change their lifestyles and the way they relate to the environment significantly. The project envisions a world that sustains humanity, where people are valued and earth systems are preserved. Project 90 by 2030's aim is to inspire and bring about significant, positive change in the way we, as humans, engage with earth systems and each other. Project 90 by 2030 achieves this via four active programme areas, viz: Policy and Research, Communicating change, Community Partnership Programme, Operations.

Project 90 by 2030 has a vacancy in Cape Town for a new suitably qualified Director with a strong background in the national energy policy and implementation sector. 
 
Description of the post: The Director leads and is accountable for all aspects of the organisation’s operations, takes the lead on fundraising, engages strategically within the broader sustainability sector and provides strategic direction for on-going external programme development and work.
 
Responsibilities:

  • Strategic leadership and alignment of programmes;
  • Operational management and planning: for internal operations and for external programme delivery; maintenance and development of strategic on-going working partnerships and programmes - a proven track record of senior management of a national organisation is essential;
  • Fundraising: long and short-term, existing funder liaison and reporting - a proven track record in growing and developing Donor relationships is essential;
  • Public relations and network building - existing reputation essential;
  • Financial oversight and management: includes good governance and regulatory compliance;
  • High level Human Resource management; and
  • Contribute research, writing and knowledge to the sustainability sector: given P90’s contribution within the Energy sector and growing community partnership work - specific knowledge of policy and implementation related to Energy supply and experience in best practice community engagement methodology is important. 
Professional and personal qualities, skills and experience:
  • Insight into SA politics from a justice perspective, sound understanding of the country’s history and the ability to speak with authority on both socio-economic and sustainability topics;
  • Should already have earned some credibility among senior leaders in government and/or civil society;
  • Practical experience of all aspects of SA Energy policy lobbying and advocacy;
  • Knowledge of Energy, Sustainability and related Behaviour change issues. Ideally already showing leadership in one of these areas;
  • Experience of direct community engagement work;
  • Sound fundraising ability and experience with a track record of finding grant funding for long and short term needs;
  • A systems thinker;
  • Appealing personality: inspiring leader, passionate, balanced;
  • Ability, understanding and interest in high-level financial strategy and financial management;
  • Only RSA nationals/citizens will be considered; and
  • Candidates must have an unendorsed driver’s licence and own vehicle and be willing to travel occasionally (national and international). 
Qualifications:
  • BSc (Hon) with 8+ years experience, or MSc with 5 years experience.
