The Plant Ecophysiology Research Group, at the School of Life Sciences, University of KwaZulu-Natal (Durban, South Africa) invite applications

1 MSc (in grassland/forest ecology) 1 PhD (on the ecophysiological responses of plants to climate change) 1 Postdoc (on the ecophysiological responses of plants to climate change) 1 PhD/Postdoc (on wetland ecophysiology with emphasis on coastal systems)

Much of the group’s research focuses on the Responses of Plants and their Reproductive Propagules to a Changing Climate and Abiotic Stresses. Projects usually involve a interdisciplinary approach.

All successful applicants will be asked to register as full time students at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and will usually be supervised by a supervisory team. Whilst training in various techniques will be provided for MSc and PhD candidates, Postdoc candidates must exhibit experience and competence in techniques conventionally used in whole plant physiology (e.g. measurement of CO2 assimilation rates using an IRGA). Publications demonstrating this will be an advantage. Subsistence and tuition bursaries will be awarded to all MSc (R60 000 per annum), PhD (R80 000-R90 000) and Postdoc candidates (R180 000 – R190 000) (all values given in South African Rands). All infrastructure and equipment required for the completion of the projects is already in place. Project titles can be tailored based on the interests and strengths of the candidate and their relevance to the group’s research focus.
