Dr Barbara Hutchinson

Dr. Barbara Hutchinson, semi-retired, directs the Global Rangelands initiative at the University of Arizona through the School of Natural Resources & the Environment in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and acts as Communications Coordinator for the new Natural Resource Users Law & Policy Center (NRULPC), a collaboration of CALS, Cooperative Extension and the College of Law. She is involved in developing local and international collaborative projects and programs and is particularly interested in the open dissemination of information, data, and educational resources to facilitate life-long learning, improved decision-making, and the advancement of innovation for solving society’s grand challenges. These interests are most fully realized in the activities of The Rangelands Partnership, a collaboration of 19 Land-Grant Universities, through the development of Global Rangelands [http://globalrangelands.org], Rangelands West [http://rangelandswest.org], and Arizona Rangelands [http://globalrangelands.org/Arizona]. Previously, she was also Managing Director of the International Arid Lands Consortium (IALC) and Director of CALS Communications and Technologies unit. Dr. Hutchinson has served as President of the U.S. Agricultural Information Network (USAIN), Chair of the AgNIC Executive Board, President of the International Association of Agricultural Information Specialists (IAALD) and was a member of the North American Advisory Board for CAB International. She holds a PhD from the UA in Higher Education Administration, an MLS in Library Science, and a BA in History.
