2nd Annual African Women in STEM

In a generation that advocates gender equality and promotes education amongst girls, the statistics of women entering the STEM field are appalling. STEM plays a key role in economic and social development of Africa and according to statistics below 10% of women account for the demographic of STEM fields. This unique gathering seeks to explore the causes behind the gross under representation of Women in STEM, combat the issues that are faced and encourage more women to take advantage of these critical areas of opportunity.

Young women need to be encouraged and empowered to embrace their femininity in a field that is deemed to be masculine- but who is responsible for this? Are Governments giving enough funding for STEM projects? Are movements started by NGO's enough to grab the Government's attention? Can the general society's perception be changed when it comes to STEM? This festival aims to answer all these questions, spark conversations withing society and celebrate Africa's female STEM pioneers.

The second annual African Women in STEM promises to be exciting, entertaining and engaging and brings a celebratory atmosphere as we also celebrate real women in STEM who have inspired multitudes through their innovative contribution and dedication to these professions.
