ABOUT THE COURSE
This course aims to train the learner on the principles and practices needed to ensure good veld management and improving the carrying capacity on a property (see course content on next page for more info). All people directly or indirectly involved in land management will benefit from this course. Learners who wish to be assessed and successfully complete the training will receive credit baring certificates under the jurisdiction of AgriSETA. It is a NQF 4 course and the minimum required qualification to enrol is grade 11.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Africa Land-Use Training is an AgriSETA accredited training provider. Its vision is to make a meaningful contribution to food security in Africa by providing excellent quality training. Africa Land-Use Training is based in the Waterberg district of the Limpopo province, but provides training in all parts of Southern Africa.

COURSE CONTENT
The course includes theoretical and practical training as well as a farm visit. The following modules

Module 1 – Introduction to veld management
This module looks at what veld management entails and discusses the important legislation dealing directly or indirectly with veld management.

Module 2 – The natural resources
This module looks at the natural resources we utilise during extensive animal production. The main natural resources discussed in this module include soil and geology, vegetation, water and climate.

Module 3 –Veld management principles and processes
This module looks at the important principles and processes that need to be understood to effectively manage veld and natural resources in general. Once these principles are
understood the veld manager will be able to see the veld in a different way and make the right decisions at the right time.

Module 4 – Veld management practices
This module looks at important veld management practices needed for good veld
management and for improving the carrying capacity of a farm in general. These practices include aspects such as farm planning, grazing management, fire management, veld condition monitoring and the control of unwanted plants.  This module also includes veld management plans and programs that can be used to assist the land manager throughout the year to improve management on the farm.
